On our tour around Skåne a couple of weeks ago visiting some dealers, one of our stops took us to Ängelholm. We started with a nice lunch at the Lindab arena which is the home arena for the pride of the town – Rögle hockey team. We had lunch together with Bengt, Lars and Pär – Ola. The agenda for the meeting was dealt with quickly, but we felt that we discussed the important things before reality caught up with us in form of customers, who needed Bengt and Lars obvious attention. Pär – Ola however took care of us showing us that typical hospitality that only people from Skåne knows how to do and at the same time he gave us a nice tour around the grounds.

Advertising for 2012 booked!

It takes about a week to book all ads for the year ahead. Loads of e – mails are sent back and forth to each magazine in each country of interest but finally you reach that moment when all the” books” for 2012 are closed and all deadline dates for material is written in the calendar. It is a fantastic moment each time. However now it is time to pull up the sleeves and get started because for 2012 we have booked advertising in 11 countries in 10 different languages which all in all sums up to more than 350 ads.

Hindersmässan is up and running

As we speak in Örebro city, the traditional exhibition Hindersmässan is taking place. An exhibition, dating from the 1300´s. Nowadays the areas hardware stores exhibit on their facilitates. Fors MW products are represented by Närkes Traktorcentrum. This year they have in yard five BIGAB, one with Z crane, two dump trailers and two FARMA lumber trailers.

Närkes Traktorcentrum is one of our best dealers in Sweden which in itself is not surprising when one works under the slogan – if you do not have it in yard, you will not sell. Just looking at the sales statistics proves to us that it works!

To verify the truth - how long is a shoe string?

Given the increased requirement for precision we have bought a tool to verify that our products are the same in real life as they show on a drawing. Further when you want to achieve repeated details that are exactly the same from batch to batch you need to have jigs that are perfect and this means to be able to control them on a regular basis.

This highly accurate measuring tool enables us to verify our tools, jigs and end products to the benefit of our customers. Measuring is a key element in our development and production and I'm sure this investment will inspire us for precision.

On our trip through southern Sweden a few weeks ago we took the opportunity to revisit Maskingruppen in Falkenberg. It´s always exciting to meet a person who has lead a team to be successful in the art of creating a successful business. Gert Jansson is such a person and he greeted myself and Göran Carlsson generously that Monday morning. Sorry to say we noted that it was a couple of years ago since our last visit and that we need to work at. We had a fruitful meeting and we saw a fantastic facility. When we left Falkenberg it was with a smile on our faces and with great hopes for the future alongside Maskingruppen. We hope and believe that Gert will feel the same way.

Things are moving in Ireland

Yet again this week a FARMA was delivered out to the end user this week. A 9 ton trailer with a 6,3 meter crane with pump and tank as well as radio steering. Dave Power also made the customer a handy removable floor for the trailer as you can see from the pictures. This was done to aid in carrying small material and equipment. A more flexible trailer so to speak. Thanks to Kevin and Dave Power Plant for all their hard work. Let’s hope that there are more sales to come out of this!

AN INTENSE TOUR OF SOUTHERN SWEDEN

As you have been able to follow here in our blog we are currently working on a CE project where most meetings take place in Malmö, south of Sweden, Göran Carlsson, sales manager for BIGAB, belongs to the group, so when the CE group would meet yet again in Malmö, we decided to use the trip as much as possible. We chose to visit a number of dealers to feel the “atmosphere” and provide information about what’s going on at Fors MW.

The feeling that we brought back home is that all seem to believe that 2012 will be a great year, which pleases us much in our turbulent world. We had time to meet with six different companies and we are very impressed with them all. In the coming weeks, we will present every one of them here at the blog. We were on the trip, as usual, meet with both positive and negative criticism, which we note and bring along for the journey.

CE Meeting

Tuesday we had yet another CE meeting in Malmö, Sweden. The CE group of Fors MW contains our CEO Peter Kastberg, I Ulrica Fors Stenmarck (market/information), Christer Persson our head of design and Göran Carlsson, sales representative for BIGAB in Sweden/Norway.

So far we have sat down at three occasions with external expertise and brain stormed different user scenarios and how we might inform about them in the manual or perhaps even how to change the actual machinery to avoid the problems. It is actually really interesting to take part in these discussions. We twist and turn the argumentation and most of the times all four of us sounds like the devil’s advocate.

The machinery sold my Fors MW is as always CE certified but we do believe in taking the discussions a couple of more rounds as one normally would do as a producer. We believe that in the end (even though far down the road) we will be able to increase market shares due to these meetings and the work in between them.

Time to book advertising

This week we begin to book the advertising for the coming year. We advertise in ten countries, in eight languages in about 45 different magazines, so it is quite a challenge to keep track of them all during the year but above all it means a lot of work when it is time to yet again book all the ads. Here at Fors MW we live and breathe our business idea, which in principle means to buy volume when we purchase whether it’s for bolts to be used in production or ads for the coming year. Beside me lays the calendar as a reminder of all the important exhibition dates to keep in mind when booking the ads in countries all over Europe. Ten countries needs their ads booked, it will be a staggering amount of ads to be booked, at one point in time, but the economic benefits outweigh the job every time.

2012 in full swing and the factory’s production is in up and running. The storms that has hit Europe these last couple of weeks have seen to it that the sales of lumber trailers has increased significantly. What is then better than to contribute with a short film from one of our UK dealers showing FARMA CT 8,5 – 14 4 WD in action a trailer with crane that in recent years has showed its strength on the market. The movie really speaks for itself!

A year has passed!

Imagine how quickly a year can pass by. It feels like yesterday I was writing the first blog of the year renaming it “2011 – The ultimate challenge”. 160 blogs have become over the year, a fantastic number, with and even more interesting content. In Fors MW, we believe in open rather than closed doors. Our openness in the blog is clear proof of that.

Fors MW is investing heavenly in marketing in everything from our ads, which are contained in nine countries in seven languages in 49 magazines continuously throughout the year, to our participation in trade shows all over Europe. Our dealers each year carry out numbers of demonstration days and participating in the regional fairs, while Fors MW took responsibility for the major events in countries such as Spain, France (SIMA), Finland, England and Sweden. Under the slogan “The future is here!” we proudly showed our most news-packed stand ever at SkogsElmia in Jönköping, Sweden. Never before in my Fors MW career have I been as proud as at that moment!

Our website is currently our most important marketing tool, available in seven languages in its entirety and will soon be updated to nine languages, in which we choose to add the Norwegian and Brazilian languages. The website has lead to several new dealers from parts of the world that to us previously has been undiscovered corners. Many are the old dealers who visited us for information and training during the year. This year´s main event was the dealer trip from Sweden, where around 70 dealers from across Sweden were flown over for education, presentation of news and a tour of the factory. An important and meaningful time that together with all the visits we´ve had over the year, are something that we remember with joy!

Several new dealers have strengthened up the Fors MW team and everyone, old or new, are worthy of mentioning but the list would be too long. The huge introduction that Helms in Denmark conducted for BIGAB after years of declining sales is well worth a special recognition and so are our Irish dealers Dave Power Plant which against all odds, took on sales of forest trailers and succeeded beyond expectations. The fact that our Norwegian, Finnish and German dealers have ensured that the sales of lumber trailers has broken all previous records are of course worth its special mentioning!

Sales during the year were really good. 2011, FARMA sales surpassed all previous records, both in complete sets as well as loose cranes, the energy cutters under the name BC 18 (introduced 2011) beats all expectations as are the sales of our grapple series. The new dump trailer that was introduced on the market has started well in its sales, BIGAB hook lift systems retain their good level while the BIGAB crane Z 6,6 has become something of a bestseller. This has been a year where old workhorses in our product range strengthened their position and newcomers in some cases proved that old are not always best!

During the year we strengthened our aftermarket team with its headquarters in Norrköping, Sweden with three people. This will speed up the delivery of spare parts, improve the internal administration and provide reinforcement for support and reclamations handling. In Estonia, we have dogged, casted, built and mounted in several parts of the factory all to get the 27 m long laser at place, the 300 kg heavy press with capacity of 3000 tons, the completion of the container workshop, the new two component coating system that has contributed to one of the best paint jobs on the market just to mention some.

2011 Fors MW changed management when Leif Fors, founder of Fors MW, after years of being CEO decided it was time to leave the daily responsibilities to the Vice President Peter Kastberg. Peter Kastberg in his role as CEO will follow in the spirits of Fors MW and continue the successful path of the business idea. The Boards appointed Leif Fors to the role of executive chairman. Leif is also ultimately responsible for the company´s product development and thus daily on location at the factory.

Finally, one can look back and agree that 2011 probably was a year full of challenges some tougher than others, some as yet only in the initial stage while others are in place and functioning properly. We know that a lot is waiting around the corner. 2012 will be the year of surprise, a year of even more exciting challenges but also a year where we continue to work on strengthen the role as the responsible market leader!

Det är morgon. Du hör alarmklockan som ringer alldeles för tidigt. Det är dags att gå upp ur din varma och sköna säng.

Du har en säng och rena lakan.

Om du har riktig tur finns det någon där vid din sida då du lyfter dina ögonlock för första gången den där dagen, någon som vet hur du vill ha ditt kaffe och som kanske brygger dig en kopp under tiden du tar din dusch.

Du är inte ensam och det finns gott om varmt rinnande vatten.

Medan du njuter av ditt kaffe och funderar över vad du ska ha till frukost eller om du ska ha någon överhuvudtaget börjar du så smått fundera över vad du ska ha på dig till jobbet idag och allt detta funderande börjar göra en smått galen, eller hur? Alla små beslut som ska fattas.

Men en sak vet vi - Du kommer inte att gå hungrig och du kommer inte att vara kall.

Sedan rusar du iväg till jobbet.

Det finns en plats där du behövs. Där du gör skillnad.

Hela dagen kommer du att göra sådant som måste göras. Du kanske älskar det, du kanske hatar det men när dagen är tillända har du en familj och vänner att gå hem till.

Your not alone , there is plenty of hot water.

While enjoying the coffee Your trying to decide what to have for breakfast or should You have it at all? And what to wear to work today.... it makes you nuts doesnt it?!

You wont go hungry and get cold.

Then Youll rush off to work.

There is somewhere You need to be.

All day long Youll do what You need to do. You may love it , You may hate it ... but in the end, when everything gets done You have a home and a family to go to.

Christmas party!

Yesterday evening Fors MW had its traditional Christmas party at noon traditional grounds. We left the office to head for Tallinn and the Indian restaurant Chakra. At place we were served fantastic foods and some nice drinks. We had a good time together and as always it feels so nice to look around the room and feel that you are among friends!

A head of the dinner our CEO Peter Kastberg presented a short over view over the fantastic year that has soon passed. Sales have been amazing and several new introduced products during the year have more than contributed to the good numbers. Next week it is time to sum up the year here in the blog. Then you will be able to read more about our interesting journey in 2011.

In need of education!

To deliver a top notch product is a good first step but nevertheless not enough. Delivery control and transferring knowledge about the actual product when a dealer is handing over the product to the customer is equally important. It is important in our goal for pleased customers but also necessary in regards to the CE mark.

Are you a customer to our products? You should always have your machine controlled by the dealer accordingly to the delivery control check list and his knowledge about the products do´s and don’ts. Are you a dealer? Are you or your staff in need of more knowledge about the product you sell in regards of aftermarket and handling instructions? If so, let us know and we will invite you to come to Estonia to receive practice and training.

A walk down memory line

On the final day of my visit to France I headed to the town of Caen, to then take the boat back to the UK, with time to spare I visited a place which is beyond words, a place where statistics mount, where feats of bravery and determination make you reflect on the previous days.

I travelled through this fantastic country of France, free, seeking trade, forging friendships and flying the flag of a company not from these shores, not from even close to this place, yet was made to feel welcome by all, greeted by men with free minds, in a free economy, who freely opened up to our products, ideas and visions.

After my last afternoon. The word “free” is what sticks in mind and drew me to some of these interesting places ,I visited a cemetery ,where 2781 men lay in graves, in the words of the gate upon entering, ``laid upon the alter of Freedom” . It’s a place where the world stand still for a few moments, its quiet, very quiet , an atmosphere that money couldn’t buy, the wind has no sound, the birds no song, even the cows in the next door field walk in a silent slow world.

Patryik Dudek 24 Poland James “jimmy” Ranch,21,Edmonton,Canada,four young men, from four different countries, who names are upon some of the grave stones I read, to who, I owe debt, I debt of freedom to travel like I did, a freedom to write this I guess.

The sad thing is, this cemetery is one of many, some on a scale you would not believe without seeing, I place I would say you must visit some day for sure, I will be back.

After reading some of the reports from June 6th 1944 during my visit, then returning to the ferry home, reading about economic meltdown, cash crisis, credit crunch in the news paper ,I cast my mind back ,to Harry, James Patryik and James, and thought ,life isn’t too bad….is it????

A French road trip

A couple of weeks ago I travelled into France to meet with clients and dealers mostly to follow up on the enquiries that we have had from there the last couple of months. It was a fantastic trip. It is great to see the country that you work so hard to promote our machinery to, to get a sense of feeling for what goes and where and how things are working. I was quite shocked to see the scale of farming in the northern areas and down through the midlands. There are some very large farms and huge infrastructure to service it like sugar factories and grain plants.

As I travelled further south on what has to be said, superb roads, the farms seem to become smaller and more diverse with wine production, live stock and forests. The dealers which I visited were impressed with our products and likewise, I was impressed with the level of stock they seem to have on yard. All around I was made to feel very welcome and I look forward of my next visit to this wonderful country.

Report from China

At Fors MW we travel several times a year to our office in China. Once in place in Shanghai we use the opportunity to travel this huge country. We literally travel back and forth to look for suppliers for our products.

Something that strikes us in our travels is that virtually all is made in China today. Everything is available and the brands from back home that states that they produce trailers based on providers locally possible buy most of their parts quite expansive from a nearby provider but in which, in turn, imports directly from China.

Here at Fors MW, we are proud of our three market-leading products and we have for example never hidden that we produce and assembly our products in Estonia and why should we? Here is an engineering tradition that goes at least as far back as the Swedish.

Nor have we avoided talking about the parts that we purchase from China, our trips, or our office in the country for that matter, and why should we? It is good products at place but you need to know which contracts to sign, you need to have experienced people at place that has dealt with the people and culture before and you do need to have regular checks of the quality. Did you know for example that Fors MW has one person at place whose only task is to travel around to our suppliers for quality control?

However, there is a big difference between us and other competitors. We deal direct with the factory in China and do pay accordingly, while others purchase from subcontractors (though imported from China) but with mark –ups that the customer ultimately pays for through expansive products.

Recently one of our purchasers, Svante Högnert, visited China and went for a tour. He also had the opportunity to visit some really interesting exhibitions focused more on the products we produce. Along with him on the tour was Norris Xiao responsible on-site in China for the team handling the day to day operations.

It was a pleasant trip, but as always you will find everything from suppliers that you must do business with to the contrary. It is ultimately about finding good quality products at reasonable prices. Buying the cheapest on the market has never paid off and has never been the goal for us here at Fors MW. If the quality is not complied with, we always produce the part ourselves at place in Estonia. That is quality that You can trust!

AS Fors MW in Germany

2011 has soon come to an end andwe are proud to say that we have had a successful year in Germany despite tough economical situation. Over the year we have meet with lots of satisfied customers. In April we visited Forst Live in Offenburg where we showed our CT 6,3 - 8 with overrun brakes among others. There are several really good qualities worth mentioning about this trailer but one that needs to be mentioned is the weight of the trailer. It has less weight then most competitors in the field and therefore higher transport capacity than most. Since then we have sold several units and the market is defiantly in need of these types of brakes along with a terrific trailer.

During ELMIA Skog in Sweden, Fors MW showed the different felling heads and the log cracker as well as the large 16 ton trailer all of which has been shown great interest in Germany. The first unit of BC18 has been delivered to dealer Peter Oswald and in the beginning of the year we also hope that the log cracker and the accumulated felling head will be available as well since several has been asking about it.

In September I headed for the Karpfhamer Volksfest that is located next to dealer Peter Oswalds area. It is one of the most popular exhibitions in the South East of Germany. People from Bavarian, Baden-Württemberg, but also from Czech Republic and Austria were visiting our stand and the response was once more fantastic.

We are very much looking forward of 2012 here in Germany and we are really positive that the new products will write the same history as the FARMA trailer has written.

NIAB, a fantastic product

Last Thursday, a few days before the first Sunday of Advent, we started the morning at ten degrees Celsius (warm for the season) at a farm in the South of Sweden to receive training off a NIAB 5 – 15 C. When you buy a NIAB, always ask for an education on the product from your dealer.

Johan Svensson from our Swedish dealer Höglandet Maskin Lantbruk had sold the NIAB at a trade show in Sweden in October to a man by the name of Thord Granlinger who has a couple of farms in an area close to Jönköping, Sweden. This day we meet at a farm named Älmeberg where Ronnie Johansson (demonstrator of processors and users of the same at his own farm), once again, in a pedagogical way transferred his knowledge about the machine to Thord. We wish Thord and his son’s good luck with their NIAB.

Aleksei Egorov has worked for Fors MW since 2005 and today he turned 70 years old! He is one of the fork lift drivers. Turning 70 does not affect Aleksei. He will continue to work as long as he feels up to it and here at Fors MW we do value experience!

A lovely gentleman from west coast of Estonia visited us today as he was passing this corner of our tiny country – otherwise he resides in Hiiumaa where he owns a farm ,Tiidu Toomla Veski talu.

I can tell to those of You who dont know where or what Hiiumaa is, that its a beautiful small island in the Baltic Sea. To paint a clearer picture : You can have a coffeebreak on this island before passing Gotland and reaching Your destination, if You one crazy day for what ever reason decide to swim from Haapsalu in Estonia to Kalmar in Sweden .

I know im way out there with this idea – but... back to our visitor.

This lovely gentleman told us that he has been working with our FARMA since 1999 – for 12 Years! And he is interested in buying a second one!

So go Tiidu Toomla Veski talu, go FARMA, go Fors MW!

A great day of importance

Last week I made a trip to Norway along with Charlie Appelgren and Johan Silverhjelm from our aftermarket division to meet with one of our biggest dealers Skogsverktöy. Skogsverktöy is indeed the dealer in the Nordic countries who has sold the most FARMA products.

The reason for the trip was to strengthen the cooperation both in regards to sales and aftermarket service. The goal is certainly the same for us but we have different experiences and priorities of what is most important and how fast things could be handled. Idea is when we all understand one another’s situations, priorities and problems. However a conversation over a good cup of coffee is often a good start to a better understanding and so was absolutely also the case this time.

When we parted, we ended by congratulating each other to the most successful product on the market but we also know that to FARMA to continue to be, this kind of talk is always important.

A huge welcome to Nathan from Home forestry. Nathan, which is presented in the picture, will now take care of the west Midland area for Fors in the UK. As you can see out of the picture he already have some nice stock at place where he can present a C 8,5 – 14 4 WD a C 3,8 G2 FARMA crane and the BC felling head and of course a BIGAB 10 – 14 to his customers and we all know – if you have it in yard you do sell!

Last Friday, we were able to press our first sheet with our 3000 ton press. Using only 450 tons we tested a tool that has been made for the train industry and the outcome was quite satisfactory.

A very nice job has been made by our mechanical repair team under Roman’s supervision and the outside partners that have been part in setting it up. We expect to be able to produce detail in the press from mid December.

Hello there!

I today took a drive to the new area where Maskin Expo will be held, the former Skepptuna golf course to see were our stand would be. Small and close roads but near to the airport of Arlanda was my initial thoughts. Overlooking the area that now was closed I spotted our crossroad where we will be based in May.

I also spotted something familiar red on the far side of the old fairway, … could it be? I took the car and drew closer and yes….the nearby farmer and entrepreneur had nicely parked his 15-19 on the yard and I tried to find him, as always, to get an end-users perspective, but unfortunately he was out. However, I think I will return in May because who could give the best testimony on our product if not our professional end-user. Considering the time we have in front of us I look forward to revisiting this place the next time we will be here.

Some days ago this FARMA CT 5,1 – 8 stopped by our aftermarket division in Norrköping, Sweden along with its owner Roland Hollander. It is Roland’s second FARMA trailer and he is extremely pleased with both the trailer and the crane. The first FARMA trailer he bought in the late 90 ties. The CT 5,1 – 8 has been used to bring out more than 15 000 cubic meters from the forest. We thank Roland for passing by and for the photo opportunity of a good looking trailer!

The inauguration of Machine center in Dalarna AB in Sweden was held on the 11 – 11 – 11. If that was a carefully selected date (the date is said to bring joy and happiness) or by chance the story does not tell but it was a lovely autumn day and a company that showed itself from its best side.

There was much to smile about when the Machine center in Dalarna AB opened its doors in the town by the name Borlänge. Jocke Fändriks, a man that we since many years have had a good working relationship with has along with four other entrepreneurs joined forces and opened a new business. Everything to become stronger and to be able to run a competitive company with operations at two places.

As you already know we here at Fors MW love entrepreneurs and we usually comment with the words – without entrepreneurs the world would stop. We kind of like the morale, the faith that anything is possible and that you can accomplish anything that you believe in. There were great entrepreneurs that we had the pleasure of meeting last week and we would like to wish them good luck with the business!

Meet a Fors MW foreman!

Time to meet yet another of the people behind the scenes. This time it is Sergei Müür one of the foreman’s in the assembly hall.

Hello there!

My name is Sergei Müür and I have worked for Fors MW a long-long time and since I have, I obviously must enjoy the work I do. I started out as a locksmith within the company but later on my supervisors found me suitable for a bit more challenging tasks and I am glad they did! I’m currently working as a foreman in the assembly. The last stop before the machines leaves our yard to meet their customers.

In my work I instruct our assembly crew so that the right parts ends up on the right type of product and model. I also need to check so that our machinery are looking the best they can when leaving our premises and I do admit – I do miss from time to time but I do my best to avoid that since I know the hard ache it causes our customers. The biggest challenge though is to see to it that all is done in time and ready to leave when the trailer comes to pick the machine up.

On my spare time I try to relax mainly by enjoying my family, reading books and watch TV but I also meet up with my closest friends nearly every weekend. I often spend the summers at the country side where we have a little cottage.

Strengthening our aftermarket department

In autumn, we have strengthened up both skills and manpower at our aftermarket department in Norrköping, Sweden who takes care of the aftermarket for the entire Group. You’ve already met Johan Silfverhjelm who came to us from a dealers after – sales and thus from the start was very familiar with our products. Johan works primarily with reclamations but are helpful when needed. During the fall we also hired Robert Gilbert to attend to certain stock handling and packing of spare parts a time – consuming and meticulous task but an important one. All reinforcements are in our pursuit of perfection for our customers and dealers. Honestly, we can say that perfections is always difficult to achieve in full but do believe – it is always what we strive for!

To sell you need to have the things in yard so that the customer has different models to choose from says Johannes Nybacken from Norway’s most successful FARMA dealer under the name of Skogsverktöy. A motto that has proven very successful for Skogsverktöy that has sold FARMA for many years. Here at Fors MW, we are really happy for the nice cooperation!

The images can perhaps be seen as taken just for this occasion but we who keep track of the order book knows that there is seldom less FARMA on the yard than when these pictures were taken.

During two days the four of us have yet again meet without CE consultant agency to once again work through the manuals of the BIGAB instruction book. This is a long and hard work but one that we feel as a market leader that we owe it to ourselves to deal with and to our customer to be able to provide the best information available. The first comment from the agency was that we have a really good instruction book but as we always strive for perfection we feel a remake being in pipeline.

Success at the trade show

Such fantastic days we experienced in Jönköping, Sweden last week! It was a great response for our forest range and even though we know our market leadership, we are always astonished at the great response and interest. FARMA forest trailers with its crane range is currently the best sold trailer in Europe and the additional grapple range under the name FARMA Generation 2 has shown to beat all sales forecasts. Our old workhorse NIAB had also many interested customers now that the thinning season is approaching.

The time of Spirits has arrived...

Its believed to be dim and chilly ... not cold yet nor warm any longer ... something inbetween.

Quite like this time of Year.

Quite like the spirits themselves.

In constant motion between the two worlds.

Our forfathers held this belief close to their hearts and built a wall of differents traditions around it.

It was a custom for example to set a table for the spirits on Thursday nights in October and November. Head of the family then called up on the passed loved ones, asking them by name one after another, to join the family for supper. People believed in those days that the spirits could keep the cattle , crop and the family itself from harms way.In order for spirits to find their way the candles were lit on windows .

The time of Spirits was a time of calm and humble behavior.

In December , just before Christmas the spirits were let go with kind words of grattitude.

We dont set the tables any longer but we do light the candles carrying the tradition that took root hundreds of years ago...

Last week we had some dear friends of ours for a visit. It was our Swedish bank that paid us a visit in Estonia to catch up on recent development and to get acquainted with all the investments that has been made over the last couple of years. The bank by the name of Swedbank Sjuhärad has been our bank in Sweden throughout nearly all of our 20 years of journey and what a journey it has been. We have lived through ups and downs, in good times and in bad times but always supported by the bank. Necessary support to have when needed. It was two happy and impressed bankers that paid us a visit! Thanks for the visit!

Hello there!

My name is Georgi Fadejev. Im a foreman in the factory in Saue. I have worked at Fors MW for many years and I enjoy my work as well as the company and of course my good collugeus with many of whom I go way back since many of us has worked at Fors MW for quite some time.

At my spare time I like to spend time outdoor and I like to be active – cycling, swimming, hiking and climbing a mountain or two. I also like to read mostly fiction.

As you see I am not a man of many words but I am good with my hands and that is what counts in our line of business.

During the autumn we will spend time with an external consultant to review the CE marking of our hook lift trailers under the brand name BIGAB. Our trailers are of course CE certified to the standards that are available but we feel on the other hand, a responsibility as market leader to always stay one step ahead of all development, all around safety. Therefore, we have now brought in an outside consultant to jointly review the technical folder available for each model but also to re-evaluate the instruction manuals that our customers receive upon purchase. Everything can always be better is our motto here at Fors MW!

The installation of the huge press is in continued progress at Fors MW. The “small” thing weights more than 3000 kg and has the pressing capacity of 3000 ton. We have now mounted the press together but still there is some small works to deal with. Soon however it is ready to be used to the great happiness of several other manufactures around Europe that has called us over and over again asking if we could produce also their needs of pressed sheets, an assistance which we of course could assist with as soon as our green incredible hulk is completely installed.

Peter Kastberg former Vice President of AS FORS MW was on Wednesday appointed President of the Fors MW Group. Peter has a long history especially in the role as financial and market- oriented president in varies companies. Peter joined the Group in January 2008 and has since worked with the daily operational management in close collaboration with the now outgoing President. Peter has over the years worked vigorously with the Company´s future development and expansion. As a comment to the appointment Peter states “It is with humility and confidence in the future as I take on this role. Fors MW is a great company to be involved in and developed with sound business principles and the new products in sight are fantastic. At the same time I also look with gratitude to Leif Fors for the choice to continue to contribute actively in the company with his expertise and long experience”.

Leif Fors the outgoing President and founder of Fors MW look confident at the shift that now is in process. In a commentary Leif says, “Peter has made an outstanding job showing his commitment to the company´s challenges and he fully shares our corporate philosophy which is the foundation in everything we do. It gives me great confidence and I look forward to seeing the company continue to develop under Peter´s leadership”. An unexpected guest ...

Tiny bright black eyes, almost like pins looking at Us suspiciously .Ears like antennas constantly moving towards the direction of different sounds. Fragile yet so strong somehow. But most of all sleepy - in the full meaning of the word.

Given the circumstances in which this little fellow ended up behind Our window its perfectly understandable. We are talking about a bat in the city in broad daylight! Bats as we all know are nocturnal and active at twilight. These somewhat mystical creatures rarely choose the company of humans and tend to retreat to caves instead.

Our little friend got probaly lost on the way, decided to look shelter for the rain since rain interferes with their echo location and makes it difficult to navigate...

A bit of warmth woke him up off he went - searching for a safe place to hibernate in.

Board meeting

Yesterday it was high time for the third board meeting of the year at the premises of Fors MW in Saue, Estonia. Our owner group was all gathered for some good discussions and some friendly inputs into the challenges ahead because there are challenges ahead. We sense a change in the market. We sense that the market is once again taking one step back and more carefully reasoning about the investments that need to be done. This is especially noticed in the contractor sector.

However the forest sector seems to be up and running as before which is happy news for us and we see growth in all our markets in regards to both FARMA and NIAB. This is great fun to see since we have put huge effort into increased growth for FARMA around Europe. All the exciting news presented over the last two years is of course of importance in this success. The board received loads of information and seemed to be quite satisfied with the numbers showed and the factory tour gave as always smiling faces. We thank the board for this meeting and hope to see you all back in Estonia in December!

We had some fantastic days with the Swedish dealers that arrived from Sweden by airplane Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Around 70 dealers from all over Sweden arrived in Tallinn Wednesday evening where the event started with some company information about Fors MW presented by our Vice President Peter Kastberg and our market and information manager Ulrica Fors Stenmarck. The dealers found especially the history of Fors MW to be interesting and an amazing journey. Afterwards the dealer enjoyed a nice dinner.

Thursday morning started bright and early since the bus left the hotel at 8 to head for the factory. At place the group was divided into three smaller groups and time was spent learning about BIGAB and some news, FARMA and the exciting factory tour. The day ended with some sightseeing of the fantastic city of Tallinn.

We would like to thank our dealers for their visit and for all the hard work they put into selling our three market leading products! At the same time we would also like to take this opportunity to thank the amazing and hard working staff of Fors MW than yet again raised to the challenge and put together a day to remember!

For some of them it will be their second visit but for most their first. Since our dealers are busy people we have put together a tight agenda that contains both a nice dinner along with a day of product training. The work of installing the 300 ton press with the power of 3000 ton has been ongoing all weekend and progress is being made. During this week we expect the press to be at place.

BIGAB now also available as a Dump trailer!

Under the name BIGAB T – 10, launches BIGAB a dump trailer in its lineup off the same fine quality as the one BIGAB is already well-known for. The dump trailer is to be seen as an alternative for users in combination with tractors, excavators and loaders in need for a quick and simple carrier of various types of materials and where one might not be able to gain from the cost – benefits that the hook lift trailer concept normally provides.

The trailer loads 10 ton and has a tipping angle of 56 °. The bridge loads 6,3 m3 with a 5 mm plate thickness at the bottom and 4 mm at the sides along with a combi - door tailgate (top/side hung) as standard. The trailer comes with 400/60*15,5 tires but other tire dimensions are available as an option. The trailer can be ordered with or without brakes.

Unique for the BIGAB dump trailer is that it is equipped with bolted drawbar which provides comfort and increased flexibility since it offers the opportunity to use different heights of the drawbar on the basis of need. For a trailer out of the ordinary, we also offer frame steering for the work that needs to be done in narrow areas, where the need for a smooth and easily maneuvered trailer often is needed.

Heavy work taking place

Today, at this moment, we have started the process of mounting the press together which was bought in Sweden and shipped to Estonia. It is quite a unique press since it is one of very few presses of that size in Europe. It is a gigantic 3000 ton press that now is being installed. A press which we will use for loads of interesting project both existing and especially for those in pipeline.

Here at Fors MW we never lose a dime to anyone for anything, all to protect the price to our customers. Therefore we also try to manage as much as possible in-house. If we need to repair our machinery we do it ourselves, if we need to cut the grass in front of the facilities we do it ourselves. During the summer we strengthened our aftermarket office in Sweden with Johan Silverhjelm that has experience from our field of business since many years. Below you can read a short introduction written to you by Johan.

Hi!

My name is Johan Silverhjelm and I am the new guy at the aftermarket office at Farma Norden AB in Sweden. I will first and foremost work with reclamations but I will also work with spare parts and technical support.

I grew up on a farm which probably played a role in me developing an interest for machinery. I educated myself in the field of agriculture and started working on a machine station and later on at a work shop of a dealership that dealt with forestry and agricultural machinery where I also managed the work shop for some years.

My interests are mainly hunting at my own farm and go for a drive with the caravan finding new interesting places. I have two daughters and leaves with my girl friend in Norrköping, Sweden.

A couple of days ago we received the latest edition of the French magazine Mecanisation Forestier to the office and found to our great excitement a magazine spread about FARMA lumber trailer with focus on our great selling model CT 6,3 – 9. It was a good article where the journalist had meet with an owner and himself testing the trailer. As in every single article about the 9 ton trailer the excellent frame steering was in focus. The result was more than pleasing and along with our price on the French market it looks really great for the future!

Since a year ago we have new dealers Dave power plant LTD in Ireland doing a fantastic job selling and promoting FARMA on Ireland. They have attended several shows and the interest has been fantastic. The forestry industry in Ireland has over the years been of low interest to the Irish but due to the economical situation in the world the interest for forestry is on top. Yesterday one of our really good welders who have decided to leave Fors MW brought this lovely present for our CEO Leif Fors. An axe for our forestry owner CEO what could be better suiting? Denis Slavgorodski who has been with us for more than 10 years is an excellent welder with skills for crafted details. All ladies at work have received lovely hand crafted roses in steel which he has made for women’s day. Denis will now move with his family to the North of Finland to work with hand crafting rather than welding. We thank Denis for his nice gift and wish him the best of luck for the future!

Andreas was first and foremost a proud BIGAB dealer and his knowledge in the product was like no others. No one new BIGAB like Andreas. No one has probably spent us much time on customer oriented projects to develop the perfect trailer as Andreas. We had many discussions about the future of BIGAB and even though, to be honest, we did not always agree. We always listen because we knew those comments to be worth listing and paying attention to.

Neuhaus will continue its proud journey with Andrea’s wife and son carrying the tradition forward. You have our deepest condolences for your loss and our friendship for the future!

Royal welsh show

On the 18th of July BIGAB was present for the first time at the Royal Welsh show, set on the beautiful hills of Wales the Welsh weather did its usual thing and gave us some rain but it didn’t stop the crowds from coming.

On the stand of J. Davies and sons we had a BIGAB 14-17 with a Z crane and some grapples hooked up to mini diggers. The feedback was excellent on all our products with clients old as well as new visiting during the day

Fors MW would also like to thank the Davies family for their fantastic work with all our products and there kind hospitality during the show. We are looking forward to more sales from this fantastic dealership!

Celebrating Estonia

Today is a special day for Estonia and therefore also for us here at Fors MW. 20 years ago Estonia regained its self independence on this lovely August day after years of struggling throughout 50 years of occupation. The days ahead where chaotic, stressful and most of all emotional. No one knew if Gorbatjovs words of “perestrojka” and “glasnost” would show themselves to be more than just words. The tanks where moving into the city of Tallinn, Estonians gathered at the parliament only using their voices to fight this brutal regime and the Estonian folk songs filled the city. Today we celebrate Estonia, the Estonians and all those that in the fight for freedom were lost to communism.

We raise our glasses to you as a Swedish company that has been at place in Estonia for 20 years!

Visit from Brazil!

For a day in July we headed from our vacation to the head quarters in Saue to meet with our Brazilian dealers that where visiting for a day. We have worked with Motocana for more than a year and it has been a fruitful collaboration.

We took the traditional factory tour and spend time at going though the different products and most of all we spent time on discussing the interesting Brazilian market. It is always interesting to learn about new continents and new markets. We thank Motocana for their visit and for being such great teachers!

Two days of planning

Back in Estonia for the coming week. We started up with a market meeting with our Swedish sales guys Calle and Göran since we have a dealer trip by the end of September for nearly 70 of our Swedish dealers. We will fly them from Sweden to Estonia for a visit to the factory along with some education. A lot of developments and investments have taken place since we last had a dealer visit from Sweden so it is about time. This is a large investment for Fors MW and a lot of planning goes into making these two days something special for our dealers. After these two days I am quite sure it will be something memorable for both us and our dealers.

So, after a short summer break are we back in business here at Fors MW and what a great business it is! Even though the economical crises cause shock waves in the world we see a stable and steady increase. More and more markets approach us and we see business opportunities in places we have never before thought off. You will learn more about this and so much more during autumn blogs.

Great fun is also the friendship and nice collaboration between Fors MW and the mayor wheel loader company Ljungby Maskin based in the dark woods of the Swedish region called Småland. This summer BIGAB hook lift system and Ljungby Maskin joined forces at different exhibitions to show the flexibility in both machines. The photo is from Borgeby Field days in June just outside Malmö in the southern parts of Sweden.

Summer Vacation

In the Northern parts of Europe summer vacation period is just around the corner and we hope for a warm and nice summer! It has been a fantastic first half year of 2011 and never have I been as proud as I where when representing our company these last couple of weeks at exhibitions. We had more news than anyone else and to a price most can’t compete because as you all are aware of – it is one thing to charge a good price another to build quality for that same price.

Now it is time to take a couple of weeks of vacation to charge the batteries because the autumn of 2011 will be as equally hectic as the spring. Loads of interesting things are happening both within product development as well as within the factory. All of which you will be able to read more about at the blog or at the news section on the homepage.

The blog and News section is taking a break and will be back again in week 33.

Success for the BIGAB crane Z 6,6

Since the lounge of the BIGAB crane Z 6,6 more than two years ago we have seen a rapid increase in sales. That the market was searching for a smart and adaptable crane to an affordable price is now clear. Nice exhibition at Borgeby!

In the warmest of weathers and the brightest of sunshine did Fors MW last week spend a couple of days at Borgeby agricultural exhibition just outside Malmö in the South of Sweden. It was a good show where our large BIGAB trailers brought most of the attention along with our new FARMA forest trailer, the show stopper – T 16 4 WD.

It has been quite a hectic exhibition period where Fors MW have taken part in four shows in six weeks. Even thought tough it has been a delight to meet all customers and to note that overall Fors MW has proved yet again that our market leading brands are at the forefront, really taking the market leading position seriously.

It is finally time for the fourth exhibition within six weeks. This time we head for Borgeby Fäldagar just outside Malmö in the south of Sweden. It is an agricultural show that started small many years ago but today has grown in numbers of visitors and importance. All the leading players are at place and so is Fors MW since several years. Also at this show we present loads of interesting news and most interesting for this group of visitors is probably our BIGAB tipper trailer T – 10!

So we are today honoring the longest day of the year and therefore all of us in the Baltic and Nordic countries celebrate this day. At Fors MW we gathered all in Production and Administration for a summary of the first 6 months of 2011 and we could feel proud and satisfied with our achievements. After some grilled and tasty snacks we looked at the development of different product groups and presented what is coming up after the vacation.

To summarize I said that we all deserve a nice holiday break, we have done well and we will do more in the near future.

FARMA Demonstration in Czech Republic

Our great dealer Mr. Vojtěch Fleček from company FAGUS spol. s r.o. has sent us this nice link to one of the demonstrations that they had last weekend. Nolia –A little higher up then expected

We all know that this show is high up in the northern part of Sweden but today we were given the opportunity to see it from an even higher altitude.

A short helicopter ride showed the area where Nolia has been taking place. This was yet another day with many visitors but also a stand crew that was really tired at the end of the day when packing up the exhibition for this time.

To summarize it has been a very well done show from Fors MW’s side and I wouldn’t be surprised if we are back here next time in four years. Thank you TEAM for a great job and we are on the right track for the future!

It has been another nice day, although there has been hugh problems to arrive to the exhibition area. 1-1½ h queues on the highway just to get of to the accessing roads. Something for the organizer to consider as it seems the show is growing. Another very “genuine” feeling was to see a FARMA crane on horse powered trailer. Our local dealers have had very good days and taken very good care of our customers preparing several offers.. Tomorrow is the final day and we will try to get to the show in time to avoid the traffic.

First day of Nolia exhibition in Umeå in the very north of Sweden has been sunny and hot. For three days an estimated 13000 visitors are expected to look at all kinds of forest equipment. From Fors MW and our forestry brand name FARMA we are showing nine different FARMA trailers with cranes, one BIGAB’s and two NIAB’s and the interest is great. Especially our NIAB demonstration draws a lot of attention. We will go on Thursday through Saturday and the concept is the same as always, a friendly welcome and professional introduction to our products.

Time for SkogsNolia!

On Thursday it is time for yet another Swedish exhibition. This time we head to Umeå in the North of Sweden to participate in the forestry exhibition by the name of SkogsNolia. For Fors MW this is the first time taking part even though our market leading products have been displayed earlier. It will be really interesting to participate and we look very much forward to get acquainted with the northern parts of our beautiful country.

At place the visitors will find the most spoken about lumber trailer from ELMIA our FARMA T 16 4 WD, that received standing ovations at the show. Of course we will also show our other news such as two sizes of felling head/energy brush cutters, two new cranes in size C 3,8 and C 7,0 and last but not least our new BIGAB tipper trailer T – 10.

The laser is up and running

Today we had one exciting moment. After a month of installing the laser it was finally time to press the button and see the laser in action and what an action it provided. Laser is clean, laser is fast and laser cuts like no other. For the staff of Fors MW it was a great moment and especially for those who has been with us for nearly 20 years and enjoyed the journey since it all began.

Russian visit

Today we had some really nice people from Russia visiting the factory. They come from a place quite near Leningrad and they have a recycling company. They have been showing interest for either a 12 – 15 or 15 – 19. They liked what they saw when Sulev our assembling manager took them for a tour of the factory. We thank them for the visit and look forward of hearing more from you!

We have had some fantastic exhibition weeks where Fors MW once again proved to be at the forefront of the market and really lead the way, in terms of new products, which as always was set at a good price level.

Fors MW is known to be of good quality at a good price. On it, we have built our market, but despite this, one can always wish for more. With the new paint that recently has been taken into use, we have taken another step forward in the finish of our products. In addition each trailer that is being delivered today is a joy to lay your eyes on. Trailer after trailer arrives with the same fine quality. As a sales guy, you cannot be anything but proud!

Since I primarily spend my days with selling BIGAB I want to write a bit about that. Our BIGAB trailers are incredibly beautiful and immensely popular with their owners. When you get the opportunity to be at exhibitions and meet clients you receive many positive comments. Many are professionals contractors that use are products day in and day out. Year in and year out.

It is not often you meet with customers who have problems. Even if that happens. The vast majority is very satisfied with their trailers and they use them hard and frequently. BIGAB is for many an important part of their daily work and therefore a product that needs to work. When you put into perspective that BIGAB has been on the market for 30 years you realize that the problems are few. We can defiantly state that we over the years have delivered a product that works and that is of course a big part of the success behind the brand BIGAB. In Scandinavia BIGAB is today used as a collective term for hook lift systems.

If you are the best, in the lead, unfortunately, many will try to ride free on the BIGAB concept and its successes, but copies are just that – copies and always one step behind. The latest developments that we see now on the market in form of copies of substandard quality might defame the entire concept of hook lift trailers. I do hope that the machines organizations are actively working to prevent this from happening!
